Drudgery in Work and Education – Can it be Escaped?
Robin Grille’s talk will be based around the question, Why is ‘work’ so often framed of as the opposite of ‘play’? The assumption that drudgery must be accepted and endured as a necessary part of work and education is so pervasive, it is almost never questioned, let alone challenged! Today we have begun to ask if work and education could be playful, attractive and voluntary and would we have a viable society if the culture of obligation was eliminated? Can we ever escape drudgery? What is Education’s role in this? What kind of world can we imagine and expect?
